From DISH - SuperBowl 4K Info

I just checked, Channel 147 is up on my Hopper 3. It is not on my 4K Joey. I am going to assume that it might be available on the Joey 4.

I received channels 147 and 148-05 on my Hopper 3. I was able to set timers for the Super Bowl on both channels.

Oh course even if you are watching on DISH (or Peacock or YouTube TV... etc) is it really 4K? I am hearing mixed things that its 1080p upconverted to 4K, like it has been for the past few years. I am having issues confirming that it is TRUE 4K.

I remember the whole True HD 1080i with Voom and we had it for a while till DISH bought the channels and then reduced the bandwidth and reduced it down to basically 720p and stacked the channels so you had 8 channels on one transponder- before mpeg4. Then the Voom channels went under. Everyone felt like we were getting ripped off with the quality of the video reduced. But they also just started showing the same show over and over again all the time. Nothing new.

Out of 125 cameras only 6 of them are 4K.

It did after DISH took over the broadcast of them and Voom stopped being a satellite company any more. They were nice when they first started and then DISH compressed them to save bandwidth and the movies repeated all day and then they sucked and then they were dropped.

I have Peacock Premium and
I have NBC OTA ...

I'm gonna presume (cause I don't know for sure) the Peacock 4k will be better than the YTTV 4k broadcast ????

Sorry, starting to get off of the DISH side of the question some.

The video for YTTV and Peacock should be pretty much the same. I have seen no difference on the Olympic feeds so far. If you have Atmos audio capability, that will only be on the Peacock feed.

The 4K Superbowl feed starts with 4K cameras and production.
It has to be down converted to 1080p due to the network distribution systems limitations; they cannot handle native 4K. Then the feed is upconverted to 4K for the feeds to the multi-channel providers and streaming apps.

Even though this goes through the 1080p step, the picture quality is visibly better than normal 1080i or 1080p feeds. Keep in mind that those feeds are always upconverted to 2160p (4k) by your 4K TV because that is the display resolution of all consumer based 4K TVs.

Bottom line the U4K (upconverted) feed is better because it started as 4K before going through the 4K---> 1080p ----> 4K process.
When I first heard that claim, I thought that was BS, but actually using 4K cameras to produce 1080p YouTube videos, had been shown over and over again to produce better results than starting with a 1080p/i or 720P initial feed.

The other reason this will look better is because it will be in HDR.
Even the Amazon Prime NFL feeds in HDR look much better than the non HDR feeds.

IIRC, Dish had a falling out with Voom because Voom did not produce the variety of programming promised.
