Looks like the thieves may have prevailed...

FTA Direct (Robert, I think) just told me on the phone Coolsat is going for $269 in ten minutes from $149. They are also no longer honoring their published prices.

All recievers on ebay are going for anywhere from $250 - $450 and people are buying them up like their buying gas.

So if FTA-Direct raises prices to meet demand, they have to know who they are selling these boxes to, right?

PS. It just plain sucks that thieves are responsible for FTA receiver prices going through the roof :river

I wonder how that happened.

FS Lifetime Ultra is still at $139 from Sadoun, at least according to their website.

Yeah,

From what I can tell, it looks like the Pansat 3500s and Coolsat 4000 Pro are the two that prices have gone way up in the last day or so.

The last Coolsat I saw go on ebay went for $357 and had 119 bids.

This is crazy!

I figured the new price was because they are bundling the card reader / porn subscription.

I could probably be talked out of mine - I'm looking for an excuse to buy a 3500s.

The guy on the phone made mention of high demand as of today. The demand from yesterday and today, if they are catering to legal FTA users, it did not increase by $120.

But then again, money rules the world... :no

I guess I don't see how thieves are responsible. Did Dish have to go back to Nagra 1? Please elaborate...

That's sickening.

If I could, I'd post some restitution for you guys but I can't post too much info.

Rest assured, this IS just a small bump in the road and things are happening - I'd hold off buying a Coolsat at the moment or go to the Fortec boxes - atleast you know Sadoun and Fortec are still on our side.

Have you considered coolsat may have increased their prices? How about gas companies who raise prices when stuff was purchased at a lower price? Just a though and not agreeing with the price gouging. Though the american dream was profit at all cost?

They are advertising them as "nagra 2 compatible" so I would say it's a safe bet the two things are related. Looks like for the moment that the Pansat 3500s is "THE" box to buy.

Back on Topic: Should a company, who is a gold sponser on this site, be allowed to cater to the hackers and still have a presence here?

Speaking for myself...
I will not buy from a company who sells and prices their units to people who are going to steal programming which other people honestly and honorably pay for.

You never know what will happen next.
questic - I suggest you look elsewhere for a receiver bud - it's times like these you know who the reputable dealers are.

Here's some food for thought, Bell Express Vu hasn't been compromised - i'll let you work it out.

Closing thread.

I am not defending FTA Direct, but so far nothing I have seen has been confirmed and everything is based on speculation.

Take that for what you will. :D

Get ready for price hikes..

I did some research today.. and I found some disturbing news.. With the new Nag2 crack, it looks like the following recievers are "compatable" with this hack.. and therefore are going to skyrocket in price (like the Coolsat 4000 did already)... At least the good ole Lifetime Ultras and 2500As are not on this list.. we can get some cheap ones hopefully..

Coolsat 4000
Digiwave 7000
Pansat 2700A
Pansat 3500S
Viewsat (thats all it says, is there more than one model?)

If anyone was planning on getting any of these, you better do it now, before the prices go up!

NOTE: I do realize this is dangerously close to "Hack talk" but most everyone here knows my stance on it, and this post is ment as informational. I, in no way, condone hacking, and I wish the hackers would all choke on their N2 hacks..

I just picked up a Pansat 3500s which sellers are already starting to hike the price on. I paid about what I paid for my CoolSat back in May.

The Coolsat price increase is more understandable since the card reader alone is about $50. Most of the Coolsats I've seen are also including a smart card for some porn subscription service. For true FTA use the card reader is just dead weight.

I sold my CoolSat to another member here. At least one less person got hosed on a CoolSat. :)

Selling that and maybe one of my Voom boxes should cover the cost of the 3500s.
