Guys -

I am interested in feeding 8 LNBs into dual Sadoun SAR411F and connect that to Sadoun SUR420F in order to distribute the signals to about 3-4 receivers. Is this the best method to distribute FTA in the house ?

Is there a different mix of equipment that would allow me to distribute 8 LNB's to 3-4 receivers (Viewsat Extreme)?

In a perfect world how would you do it...?

Thanks,

Manny

well to run 8 LNB's to 3 recievers I am in a perfect world :)

parts needed

4 4x4 multiswitches (like DIrecTV uses)
3-4 4x1 diseqc switches
8 dual LNB's
a bunch of cable & ends

hook two cables from each LNB to the multiswitch. You will put 2 LNB's per multiswitch. One LNB will go into the 13v/18v side and the other lNB goes to 13v+22k/18v+22k
run a cable from output 1 of 1st multiswitch to port 1 of 4x1 diseqc
run a cable from output 1 of 2nd multiswitch to port 2 of 4x1
repeat for 3 & 4

then repeat for each diseqc

here is a picture (I had issues with my setup). Crappy picture is attached and its only for one diseqc. You repeat the same thing for the other 2

so right now I have 4 boxes seeing 72, 74, 79, 85, 89, 91, 97, 123

Thanks for your feedback!

How does the receiver (viewsat extreme) tells the diseqc to get the signal from port 2 on multiswitch 2 ?

If the diseqc can choose no more than 4 ports due to its physical limitations (4x1) how will it be able to select specific interfaces on the other multiswitches ?

Have you tested out spaun gear for this setup ? Is the extra price premiun worth it or will any generic multiswitch and diseqc device work
on this setup...

In the receiver menu, you can select Diseqc 1,2,3,4

Each multiswitch can work with 22k on or off so setup is
Diseqc 1 22k off
Diseqc 1 22k on
Diseqc 2 22k off
Diseqc 2 22k on

You just have to remember which LNB is where.

So as an example, I have
72-port 1 22k on
74-port 1 22k off
79-port 2 22k on
85-port 2 22k off
89-port 3 22k on
91-port 3 22k off
97-port 4 22k off
123-port 4 22k on

I use DMSI switches and for multisiwtches any old 4x4 multiswitch works. I’ve got some old DirecTV ones that work fine. I also have 2 Zinwell 4x4 multiswitches

- oops -

I just scanned this thread, and maybe I missed it , but...

Did anybody point out you must use STANDARD LNBs with this setup?
Can't use Universal LNBs, since they respond to the 22khz tone.
"Dual Output" was mentioned.

Hate to see ya trying to debug a system built with a box-full of the wrong stuff.

looks fine and that will all work. The switches can be mounted outside but you may want to cover them. My 4x4 switches and diseqcs are outside (and here in MN its been DAMN cold) and they have held up just fine

The box between the Cable TV source and all the in-house equipment should be labeled more appropriately.
It's not a switch.

Is it a distribution amp? If so, put your internet cable modem upstream of it.
Is it a splitter? If so, it should probably work as shown.

I'm not that keen on diplexers. I guess you'll have to see how they work out.

Nice drawing.

I havent had any issues with diplexers. I have one used to combine the output from my StarChoice box and a FTA run into the spare bedrrom/computer room.

Also have one for my OTA & a FTA run to go into the bedroom where the antenna and FTA box are :)

Nice drawing.
helluva nice drawing. People like me just hand draw it and scan it in :)

Thanks for your observation.

Yup, I need to change the description of the 1x8 multiswitch to splitter.

Should you need any drawings, please feel free to contact me.

Manny

yep. I use DMSI 4x1 diseqc switches and they work just fine. The only thing I forget sometimes when setting up the menu in the receiver is what LNB is where :)
