Well I ordered a FTA system from Sadoun with the rcvr, dish, and a motor. Should be here tomorrow or the next day. So I started to prep the area where I want to put the Ku dish.

Wile I was at it I put up a dishpro dish for 119/110 for NASA TV and a legacy dish for 91W (if those CA radiostations are still on there). NASA is all set and a guess the dish300 is pointed at 91W..ill find out when I get my FTA recvr.

Which brings me to my 1st of many Q's ill be posting here... Will an old DISH SW21 work as a FTA swich so i can swich between the DBS LNB and the Ku LNB? Im betting i have to get a "real" switch for this.

I snapped a few pics of my ghetto mounts and my LOS for G10R. At least what I THINK my LOS is..

Tomorrow I have to get some more blocks...

I hope the Ku dish doesnt flex the wimpy echostar/Direct mast

Hello! The switch 2/1 will not work for FTA :(

Nice pictures! If you look closely you can actually see G10R :D

OK I didnt think SW21's would work but i just thought I ask..

Im guessing i need a "S-DS41 (4x1) DiSEqC switch? Will this switch a Ku lnbf and the legacy e* lnbf? Or do i need to just make a cable run and put the DBS on its own line to the house?

The 119/110 Dpro dish is already on its own line to an old E* rcvr.
Im getting the fortec star ultra rcvr...

Nice receiver, thats what I use : ) The DiSEqc switch will work for you!
(will not work with the Dish pro LNB)

But if you can run an extra cable if you have one, it will get used! I prefer not to use switches if I can, remember to have the power off before inserting the switch. I guess I don't have to tell you :)

Well I hope my system will be here today..so im trying to read up on how to set up the motor system...

I know I have to find my "true south" bird...

Now this is a dumb Q but here goes.

By "true" do they mean TRUE south like Galaxy12 is at true az of 181deg (but magnetic 197deg)

Or should I aim it at my magnetic south sat? Which is e'star 61.5 or Brasilsat A2 (at MAGNETIC 180deg)...

Thanks...Im betting its G12 I have to shoot for but im often wrong on most things ;)

Give us you zip code and will we give you all the angles you will need. A lot easier to understand that way! But you need your TRUE south sat.

Thanks for the quick reply.

My zip is 06708 (dirty)Waterbury CT

Im thinking amc6 or Gal12...They are at true 180 and magnetic 195ish with 42ish elev...right? Way off? Man I hate math... :)

Looks like SBS6 maybe the best KU satellite to use for true south....

SBS 6 74.0W 181.4 196.6 42.0 1.1

Heh... Forgot to check if there was even Ku stuff on the 2 I picked...would have been there for a wile hehe

Thanks!...now wheres that FedEx guy

hah, Waterbury, I live in Waterford.. people always getting the two confused even tho they are a good hour and a half away from eachother ;)

The SW21 should be alright, its just a 22khz switch, the DP21 wouldnt however.

I use AMC6 as my south, there are some 24/7 feed carriers.

never could get one to work

if thats the case, then I'l be happy as I am using 4x1's when all I need is 2x1's :)

I just double checked, yes, they are SW21s but not Dish SW21s, they are Hughes branded, marked DBS and FSS

So disregard my above statement, however, I do remember reading somewhere that they are 22k switches, but I have no proof of it.

Now im learning/reading more and more about FTA stuff I figgered out SW21's will not work..
They are made for old legacy DISH rcvers..I know they can not make a 22khz tone..so "DISH" sw21's dont listen to 22Khz..they listen to pulsing of the LNB voltage to figger out what port to switch to.

Why e* couldnt do things the way everyone else does I dont know.

well the Fedex guy came and im all hooked up.

I set the elv around 40 and moved around with the AspenEagle sat meter..I have something strong in the area of 61.5...maybe its the echostar sat I dont know.

Anyways my fortec ultra only came with docs in spanish..so i have no idea whats going on here. I have it on and its reading sig of 50 and Q of zero. It doesnt seem like it can ID the sat? I have to manual pic a sat and hope its right. So i am trying to do a power scan.. is this a "blind scan"? I dont have the motor hooked up yet.

Good idea to find some satellites without the motor : ) Yes the power scan is BLIND scan, thats also a good idea...........

With the LNB unhooked I get 45% sig...normal?

Also if I set my aspen eagle sig meter to "22Khz" tone the meter moves up alot and I have to adj it down...I get alot more hits with it. Should I leave 22Khz off?
