I didn't see "HEVC" anywhere in that article. Not even MPEG-4. And future proofing for decades means little as the networks try to eliminate free OTA.

More will be revealed at the NAB Show,
I do not think there is any other way to deliver 4k without HEVC either in OTA,Cable, or Satellite reasonably

Uhm, sorry but that is exactly NOT the point as stations will maintain 1.0 for years to come. But it is true they do WANT you to buy a new TV and you will LIKE it buster....

More likely the broadcasters will invoke some type of DRM to prevent you watching on your "old" TV.
