FYI Just upgraded my Hopper 1.0 to the New Hopper with Sling

I don't know the woman said they had appointment for this afternoon between noon and 5. I was surprise too I thought it would be next week at least.

I'll tell ya, DISH has always treated me wonderfully. I had two first-gen Hoppers and two Joeys. I inquired today about swapping out my Hoppers for new Hoppers with Sling. DISH did so free of charge, but interestingly, could only offer me ONE Hopper with Sling. The specialist could not upgrade my second Hopper to a Hopper with Sling, even when I offered to pay for it. I hadn't heard anything about DISH limiting accounts to one Hopper with Sling. In any case, I managed to upgrade one of my Hoppers to the new Hopper with Sling at no cost, so I can't complain!

As someone who presently has a Sling Box solo attached to a hopper does anyone know if there is any reason worth upgrading? Would love to see some comparisons between picture quality and features.

I have a Hopper w Sling as well as a Sling Box HD connected to it. I prefer the internal Sling and Dish Anywhere because they are easier to use IMO. ThE Sling Player app is $15 and more of a true experience since it has all the full menus that you would see if you were viewing at the TV. I personally recommend Dish app and adapter over a stand alone sling box due to it having all the functions I need and the ease of use for anyone, not just techie type people.

The best I can understand, the only real difference is the speed of the box, and the Hopper Transfers apps where you can transfer recordings to an iPad for offline viewing. The main features are the sling and wifi built in. If you already have them, and don't need the Hopper Transfers, it might not be a worthwhile upgrade if you have to pay $200 for it.

Others can chime in and give more info or correct me if I'm wrong.

Another advantage of built in Sling - it allows you to watch a different show remotely without disturbing the main TV at home. With Slingbox it forces the person at home to watch the same show being viewed remotely....

Same here. I have been with Dish for six years now, and they have never done me wrong. At the beginning of the year I upgraded to a 2H/2J system and I absolutely love it. I was disappointed when I found out they were coming out with a new Hopper in the next two weeks :(. However, it was my own fault for not reading a little further down on the forum that a new receiver would be coming out.

Anyways, I figured I'd give Dish a call too and see what I could do to get my receivers upgraded. I was offered the same deal as jazzfan with one receiver for free and the second one for 200. I upgraded one receiver for the moment, and Dish is just going to ship it out to my house. I couldn't be happier with the customer service I got from the CSR.

I'd say if you have upgraded recently, give Dish a call and see what they can do for you. If you don't like what you hear, try and see if you can get the supervisor involved to see if the price can be waived. Obviously, be courteous and thank them. It worked for us :D.

Thanks Dish!

True, but... When the Sling Adapter is being used, TV2 (in the case of my 722) is not allowed to watch anything at all! IMHO it would be superior to watch a dup, rather than the message saying TV2 is in use.

Can anyone that has used both the original hopper and the new hopper with sling compare the differences the better processor and extra ram make? Is it noticeable in channel surfing? Or is the spec boost solely for hopper transfers? I got the og hopper when it was first released, and wouldn't mind the upgrade. Just don't know what to expect. I was quoted $200 and a 24 month contract re-up to upgrade.

The speed difference is tremendous in guide scrolling, menu navigation, channel surfing. I have one of each.

That is so true. Noticed that too with the new Hopper. Just wondering when I will get the channel labels back on my guide (ie. fox, nbc, etc) Been about 2 hours, still not there.

I remember the speed was incredible with the original Hopper in the videos from CES2012. They supposedly had to slow it down in software to make it usable. So, I would think they could speed it up again. I wonder why they don't, if they deliberately designed the H2 to be so fast?

Hopper 2000 was very fast at launch and seems to have slowed a bit over time with sw updates. My original Hopper is still really quick but the new one is a good balance of blazing speed and useability,in my opinion.
