I read in another thread a statement about G10's RTN channels switching to
DVB-S2. Has there been any statement from RTN about this ? I'd hate to lose those channels if they switch off to some diff signal format that few of us can get.

Thanks, don't know how I missed that one. That news totally sucks of course.
Maybe by the time they all switch there will be some affordable mpeg4 ,S2 boxes.

Maybe it's time for me to put a PC together from all the old ones I have. Then I could try out a PC card and perhaps a home built PVR while I'm at it.

I have a 500mhz machine running Win XP with a DVB-S card that does 4:2:2 rather well. HD is jerky, but somewhat watchable. I'm not sure what speed would be required for the DVB-S2 feeds, but I would presume it would need to be at least 1.3GHZ.

Maybe Sadoun or Mike Kohl can come up with a solution. A custom-built fta receiver that is upgradeable for all these new wrinkles to the signals would be wonderful. (but probably not economically feasible for non-hackers)

The Pansat 9200HD is listed as being DVB-S2 ready. That would be my way to go if another STB were to come to mind. The part about adding boards to it comes too close to the Turbo 8SPK mod the hackers are doing. Unless its only a software thing like the forthcoming PVR feature.

I have got several calls in to various receiver manufacturers encouraging them to jump into the MPEG-4 / S2 receiver market. Pansat will take a deeper look at what it takes to make the 9200 HD work with this format, while others are now taking a first look at the new market. Up until now, there was little reason to have this format, due to a lack of channels in FTA mode that were using it. This could be the push to get everything going. But it won't happen overnight....we'll keep you posted about any positive new developments.

Thanks Mike, hopefully something will materialize to fill this future need. Will surely be a lot
of us wanting to keep our RTN channels.

We have been testing several S, S2, S2-8PSK receivers with several broadcasters. These units perform very well with native and resolution conversion, Blind Scan, USB, HDMI, Component, Composite, Optical, etc.
When the broadcasters begin to purchase quantities, we will release a version for hobbyists. Estimated retail $300+/-

As Mike said, as more channels become available, there will be demand. Manufacturers will have a market, broadcasters will purchase quantities, hobbyist will have lower prices .......

A picture to tempt .......

Thanks Mike and Brian!

We know you guys are doing your best to get us a product as soon as possible and we know it WILL come.

I gotta tell you, that picture makes me feel like Pavlov's dog with my tongue hanging out drooling. :)

Hopefully something will come soon.

There are some S2 recievers listed on tele-satellite's web site. Most of them are available in Europe, but since they are from companies that never sold to NA with their older models, they probably won't sell these here either.:(
