Game Show Network goes HD

The Game Show Network will launch a High-Definition simulcast channel next week, Broadcasting & Cable Magazine reports.

The new HD channel is scheduled to launch on September 15. A GSN official would not reveal which, if any, TV providers would carry the channel at launch, but he told B&C that several operators are testing the signal.

"Most operators are shooting for 100 plus HD channels and we think we will be one of those services," he said.

B&C reports that GSN is now producing all of its 10 original show in HD and some syndicated shows are in high-def as well

The network said all primetime programming would be produced in HD and roughly 40 percent of the entire schedule would be in high-def.

Who owns GSN? If this channel can go HD then I can't see a reason that every channel isn't in HD.

A couple years ago, sure... but we're getting to the point where almost all channels will be HD within the next couple years regardless of how much actual HD content they have. GSN isn't exactly on the top of my list, but I'm all for them launching an HD channel.

Sony owns GSN. Maybe this would be a channel addition along with Sony Movie Channel?

Yep, Dish Network will NOT be the only exclusive provider of Sony content. D* has a hand to laydown yet..... I dont know what's taking them so long, I suppose we could get some clues tommorow, IF not, then its status quoe for a few months.

The locals in the D* forum at the other place are getting resless though.

Getting back to the original topic, GSN has a lot of original programming these days. Apparently many of you haven't checked it out in about 5 years. Although I'm glad it was still in non-HD when they were airing the Carne Wilson hosted version of the Newlywed Game.
