Genre Packs from DIRECTV

Just noticed in my area, offering all 4 Local Networks (CBS, ABC, FOX, NBC) as part of My News Genre Pack, you would receive those, along with the main National News Channels ( except NewsNation) for $40 a month, DVR included , viewing on multiple TVs-no box fees.

My Sinclair owned ABC local is not in either MyNews or MySports. Sinclair is paying hardball I guess. I thought streamers only have to negotiate with the networks and not station owners.

If DirecTV was only a streaming service, like YTTV, then it would be just with the networks.

But their streaming service is only a streaming service. Why would also having a satellite service make them negotiate differently for their streaming service?

Same company is the only answer I have.

Maybe if DirecTV spun off the streaming service into it's own company/corporation, without the satellite counterpart, then they could make the same deals as YTTV.

The desire to attain most-favored-nation status in carriage negotiations has often been a driving force. It isn't easy to do that if you only bring a couple of million households.

I doubt that the Genre Packs contribute mightily to the joy-joy from the content owner's viewpoint, as they don't promise wide carriage of all the channels in an owner's portfolio.
