How to: Firmware (.abs) file Update via USB

1. Download and unzip the microHD firmware update.

3. Save the new firmware (.abs) file to an USB drive.
4. Insert the USB drive into the microHD rear panel USB port.
5. Press Menu key then press the Down Navigation Arrow key to select and highlight the Tools Menu icon.

7. Press the Up or Down Navigation Arrow key to Select Save to USB.
8. Press List/OK key to display the Save to USB screen.
9. With Save Mode highlighted and ALLCODE displayed, press the Down Navigation Arrow key to highlight Start.
10. Press the List/OK Key to save the current operation firmware version to the USB in case you need to reload for any reason.
11. Once the save to USB is complete (status bar at 100% and "File Successfully Save" is displayed), press the Exit key to display the Tools Menu screen.
12. With Save to USB highlighted, Press List/OK key to display Save to USB screen.
13. With the Save Mode line highlighted, press the Right Navigation Arrow key to select userdb.
14. Press the List/OK Key to save the current User Data Base (.udf) file to the USB. This .udf file may be used if you wish to restore the current satellite/transponder/channels and switch settings. It may be recommended not to use old User Data Base files during major firmware updates. Please read the release information and notes for recommendations.
15. Once the save to USB is complete (status bar at 100% and "File Successfully Save" is displayed), press the Exit key to display the Tools Menu screen.
16. Press Up or Down Navigation Arrow key to Select Update by USB.
17. Press List/OK key to display Update by USB screen.
18. With the Save Mode line highlighted and ALLCODE displayed, press the Down Navigation Arrow key to highlight Upgrade File.
19. Press the Right Navigation Arrow key to select the new firmware version (.abs) file. Example: GSPMHD_0.15_12052012.
20. Press the Down Navigation Arrow key to highlight Start.
21. Press the List/OK Key to initiate the firmware file transfer to the microHD.
22. When the warning screen appears, select Yes if you wish to continue with the update or No to escape without updating the receiver firmware.
23. The update is now in process and cannot be interrupted. During this process it is critical that the power is not interrupted or shut off. A power interruption may corrupt the firmware transfer and cause the receiver to be inoperable.
24. Once the Update by USB is complete (status bar at 100%), the microHD power will turn off then the unit will reboot.
25. We recommend that a Factory Reset is performed and then the microHD be disconnected from power for at least 10 seconds. This will reset the unit and clear any memory buffers.
26. The Firmware Update with clean satellite/transponder list is now complete. You may now activate satellites, set satellite parameters and scan for channels.

Quick Reference:
  • The .abs file is only for firmware updates.
  • Satellite/transponder/channel lists, configuration settings, etc. are not firmware files. These are database files.
There are two types of Database Files:
  • Default Database files (.ddf) contain the lists and configuration default settings that the receiver is reset to during a Factory Reset.
  • User data files (.udf) can be erased during Factory reset back to the Default Database. The User Database can be set as the Default Database in the Channel Edit menu.
