Getting Ready For Aug 15th What Happened To You

Just got off the phone with Dish and was asking about the upgrades and here are the results.


First off i have a Leased VIP 211 downstairs & a Leased 811 upstairs With AEP + HD + Locals

First call: Called in and asked about the Aug 15th shut down off the MPEG 2 and changing out the 811 i have upstairs to match the 211 i have downstairs so i can get all of the programing i am paying for, I was told that i can not upgrade because i lease my 211 & 811 and would have to buy another VIP 211 for $299 of course i didnt do this and tried to let the lady know that it was a" like for like " upgrade and i didnt need to buy a 211 to replace my 811 she told me i didnt know what i was talking about and she hung up on me " End Of Call "

Second Call: Called back and got another CSR and told him about the first call and he said ! sec and put me on hold after a minute or so he came back on and asked me if i still wanted the upgrade and he would be able to do it for $99, so i asked why the charge he again said 1 sec and put me on hold after another minute he came back on and said sorry i can give it to you for free so i said Thanks and that would be fine and when could i expect it delivered, He again said 1 sec and put me on hold for another minute and came back on and asked me if i would like a VIP 622 and send back both the 211 & 811 so i asked what would that cost be as we were looking into getting one but never did, he said i can send that out to you for free also so we set it up and i have a install date for this thursday the 5th for the change over.


So i went from having a VIP211 & 811 to getting a VIP 622 for free of course had to do another 18 months commitment but that is nothing new with Dish when you upgrade.

I enjoy my 622 lease a lot more than my previous 811 lease. Especially being able to record 3 shows while watching a pre-recorded one.

With an 811 and 211, I'm assuming you had HDTVs at both locations...if that's true, you do realize that in replacing BOTH with the 622, that you will only have HD on one of the TVs, right? The 622 output to TV2 is not HD.

Yes i know that TV2 is only SD, The tv the 811 was hooked to was a SD set Dish sent it to me when i first signed up

i dont really get why you're calling to begin with. It;s been said plenty of time on here the voom upgrade is only for people without mpeg4 at the moment you're already a dishhd subscriber

The reason i called was to change out the 811 i had upstairs for my wife witch is MPEG 2 so she can watch the same programing we have down stairs as there are some she cant get know because of the 811

Okay... I can understand the want to watch those HD channels on another tv, but what does all this have to do with Aug 15? Your 811 isn't going to stop working, it'll keep recieving whatever you're getting now, based on what you've said is your package.

If you want another 211 (or a 222 or 622) to get HD-package channels on the 811-powered set, it's just a standard upgrade - nothing to do with the 8.15 Voom MPEG-2 killdate.

Okay... I can understand the want to watch those HD channels on another tv, but what does all this have to do with Aug 15? Your 811 isn't going to stop working, it'll keep recieving whatever you're getting now, based on what you've said is your package.

Voom with be converted to MPEG4 on Aug 15 so the 811 would not be able to receive them anymore.

Why not call if you were not slated for a free upgrade? This is no different than what most other E* or D* sub's do. I try to get free upgrades whenever possible.

That is why i called is to ask about the Aug 15th kill date and the upgrade was offered to me and it happened to be a free upgrade.

The reason for the tread was to share what happened with my upgrade and see if some other members are running across with there upgrades

You should be careful putting "wife" and "witch" in the same sentence.
