I dumped Media general for DISH many years ago largely because of bad service experiences. I signed up fro Cox (who bought Media general's cable interests) for internet.

Over the last few weeks I have had problems with intermittent internet service at night. Unfortunately Cox won't provide service because I do not have a PIN number. When I told them that I do not believe that I ever received one they informed me that they do not release PIN numbers unless they can verify Social security numbers. I told them that I was more than willing to go that route but they said that they do not have my social security number on file and therefore could not verify it.

After 20 minutes of trying to find a way around their rules or convince them that iIcould not possibly provide a PIN number. I just gave up.

I have order Verizon FIOS and suspect I will be happier with it.

At my house we had Cox for a number of years, but between the price hikes and removal of channels and reprehensible Digital Cable packages, I signed up with DirecTV and haven't looked back.

Their motto should be, "Cox: We live up to our name."
