Got a new to me tv!!

I liked mine, but the ViP 722 was even better (faster) and had an optional ATSC Tuner module available.

And, like was mentioned, the ViP models had MPEG4 necessary for the new HD channels.
I was thinking since spotbeam 26non 110°W is still mpeg2 would an 811 be able to pick that up and get data so I could use the ota feature on it?

I'm not sure what software the 811 is running and whether it would allow OTA access without an account, but it "should" work. I was surprised this year when we got to our vacation home and I couldn't access the DVR content on the ViP 211k receiver before the account had been reactivated. But I was still able to use the 211k's OTA tuner to watch the local stations.

My 612 is kinda bypassed to record things like free previews and the shopping networks by tuning to for example hsn2 then pressing info then search then record and it does it pretty well

I would expect that you'd need to erase the OTA data from the previous owner and re-scan your Locals. I don't believe that the receiver needs authorization in order to do that.
