With my current installation most of the coax run is in my attic so the ground block is located near where the coax enters the house. I am contemplating a move of the dish from the fascia of my house to a metal pole approx 50 ft. away from the house.

My question is;

1) should the ground block be installed on the metal pole,

2) at the entry point of the coax to the house,

3) or both places?

According to NEC handbook 820.100(d) the system must be grounded (bonded) to the power grounding electrode system (the ground rod servicing the electrical panel, telephone, CATV, etc.). Translation: The satellite system ground block needs to be connected to the home's electrical system ground rod.

If you choose to also ground the pole mount with a rod driven beside the pole mount, bond the rod to the power grounding electrode system with a minimum 6 AWG conductor. If the rod is not bonded to the main system, a difference of grounding potential exists and may lead to a flash over hazard.
