Guide issue

How do you get rid of the "pre-guide" screen that comes up asking what genre do you want to look at such as news, sports or local channels? I know once its up you hit guide again but how can you get rid of that? Thanks.

What recvr are you using, most go to the guide first and the Filter guide on second press, the older ones went to Filter first till D* changed it.
Are you sure your not accidentially pushing the "Guide" button twice ?

You need to change it. Here is how to do it

setup
system setup
display
preferences
scroll to "GUIDE SHOWS" and change it to "Grid Guide First". The other option is Categories first

This is normally the default .... however Now they let the sub decide.

On the same topic, is there a way to hide channels, other than 'adult', from the guide? There are some I'm not interested in. Blocking them doesn't hide them.

I was not able to hide channels. I was able to make a favorites list (or 2) and use that as a way to 'hide' the channels I didn't want to see. It's worth the time up front to make these fav's, even though it's a pain.
