Just install the new drive and the receiver will format it. No special tricks needed.

I am a retired Echostar tech and I like to work on my owned equipment. Also my wife is used to the 722. If I find the right hard drive what do I have to do once I replace the failed drive.

Nothing. It formats and sets itself up. Then you just re-create your timers.

I have 6 SD TV's some have ATSC tuners built in. I also have 2 HD TV's without ATSC tuners built in. I also have 4 TIVO's with ATSC tuners that act as converter boxes for HD. No I am not lacking modern reception capabilities, 1-4K & 3-1080P TV sets

I don't, the SD feeds as an imperfect feed for another TV. I live with it. An option the Hopper does not provide. Yes, overall Hopper > 722k, but for cheapskates like me... dollar for dollar, # for #, 722k for the win.
