Hard-Core Porn Interrupts News Show

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — A cable news program was temporarily replaced with hard-core pornography, shocking viewers who had been watching a health show featuring former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw. The incident Monday night on KPPX-TV was "an act of human sabotage" at the Phoenix-area station, said ION Television, which operates the station.

"We have launched a rigorous investigation, and any implicated employees will face strict disciplinary action and termination," ION Media Networks spokeswoman Leslie Monreal said in a statement.

Brenda Schodt, of Chandler, said she was shocked to look up and see graphic sex acts on her television screen.

"Maybe five or 10 minutes into the show there was no volume," Schodt said. "I thought it was the TV, but when I looked up, there were these images."

ION Television, based in West Palm Beach, Fla., declined to say whether the pornography aired beyond the Phoenix market.

Cable news? So was it on cable or "open airwaves?"

KPPX is the local ION affiliate in the Phoenix DMA (formerly PAX51), so not only is it OTA, it likely is rebroadcast on her local cable system, which it bet is how she saw it and maybe how the word "cable" was introduced into the story. Heck it is rebroadcast on DBS as well.

I wonder if the station is on auto pilot or not...if not it only proves it pays to have a master control op in there and if they did have one in there he's the one to talk to.

Neither did Janet Jackson, but Viacom had to pay a hefty fine for 1/2 second of THAT. Imagine what this one will be.....

I doubt it cause its a small market and it has nothing to do with howard stern

Phoenix really isn't a small market (#13 and the fastest growing market in the US); but I will agree that the channel likely has a small viewership though.

Honestly you couldnt be doing a more true apples and oranges comparison than you are now. A Phoenix tv station with maybe 5k - 8k viewers as compared to the superbowl with what, multible millions of viewers nationwide and world wide? Granted that Janet and Justin didnt get down on the stage and go at it but unless someone deemed important by the goverment was watching that news broadcast then I dont see the fcc giving the station a second glance. The only time that the fcc gets involved is when a goverment official or one of their family members gets upset or some wanting to rule the world christian from one or another group takes it upon themselves to try and save the rest of us because we arent capable of thinking for ourselves.

So, using your math.....

1/2 second of a wardrobe malfunction on a widely watched broadcast is a major infraction, while a minute (or however long it lasted) of XXX content is merely shrug worthy.

Just checking. Not trying to be sarcastic, just trying to understand why it is so different. I would think the FCC would clamp down to make sure that all smaller affiliates do more to increase their transmitting security features....
