I have a hughesnet dish mounted on my roof and it is currently not working can it be re-aligned and aimed at Star Cho****. I have an activated sub, and I figure that dish is up there, I might as well get some use out of it.

What was the dish used for before it stopped working? I would think StarChoice uses circular polarization-the lnb on the internet service dish should be linear, so no it wouldn't work as it is.

It'd be problematic to try to use it for a pay service. I think most of them use more than one satellite, located a few degrees apart so you'd need 2 lnbfs on a dish to get all the channels.
They do make pretty good fta dishes though, as is, once you aim it at a satellite with some programming.

I hoped someone would cover these points, but I'll give a try...

Best I remember, the 2nd Star Choice satellite has "ethnic & foreign" programming, along with hi def.
Most of the standard def material (I think) is on the main bird.
They use a 22khz switch to change between LNBs for the two satellites, should you get to that point.

Show us a picture of the Hughesnet dish.
Read us any printing on the LNB or other parts.
Normally, that LNB is typical 10750 LO Ku band, just like any Standard LNB.
But, one guy came through here with a Ka-band lashup.
If that's what you have, it flat won't work.

Lastly, if you have all the Hughesnet equipment, I've read it's worth more unmolested than torn up.
Search previous discussions here on the forum.
You might be able to sell it all for enough to buy yourself a more appropriate dish or other equipment.

It's possible you could run across someone with a 65 or 75cm (?) StarChoice dish complete with LNBs
Just have to look. Possibly for free.
But a few bucks would still be a deal (or straight swap), if you got the proper equipment.

Starchoice, now known as Shaw Direct, is linear. They are on 107.3° and 111.1°.

I would suggest that the OP direct his queries to the Canadian Satellite Services Forum of Sat Guys. It is possible that someone has already tried what he wants to do. They would also be more likely have an extra dish to trade/sell.

Starchoice 107.3 is the main satellite
111.1 has French, ethnic and HD programming on it

The dish will work for Starchoice (Shaw). I used an old Primestar dish for 107.3 for a long time
