Have DirectTv hub and want to get access to the media there

I have a HR22-100 HD DVR receiver, an internet connection (wireless), and a Dell Laptop that has a video adapter which prevents me using the directv2pc software. I was wondering if there is any other way to access the recorded material (mostly programming I've recorded that I want to view later) that resides on the DVR other then the DirectTv2PC application? In other words, since DirectTv isn't responsive, has anyone developed an application that would allow access to the DirectTV Media server, and the recorded material there? Is it a 'format' issue, or proprietary compression algorithm that prevents access and playback? Sorry about the very basic question, but I can't find anywhere using search where this has been asked and answered.

Programs recorded on the DVR are encrypted tothat DVR and can only be played back from that DVR.
Of course, MRV will work as it is the DVR that recorded the program that is playing it to the remote receiver.
