HBO/Cinemax Takedown

Has anyone informed the Brits yet ?

I think they figured it out when they gave up the right to pass laws governing Canada in 1931 except on request of Canada, and the right to make Canadian constitutional changes in 1982. It should be noted too, that Queen Elizabeth appears on Canadian currency not as the Queen of England, but rather as the Queen of Canada. Canada is both a parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy.

Canada is that place up there where movie stars threaten to go when things aren't going the way they want.

Sadly, they never go.

No. The package prices are in their dollars too, so it's a wash. The higher package prices are proportionally higher with the higher salaries in those same dollars.

Not sure I buy the higher salary argument. Perhaps it has changed, but when I worked in Ottawa in the early 2000s, my Canadian counterparts made about the same as I did. Plus, their take-home pay was less due to the higher taxes that pay for all the socialist programs. If Canadians have higher salaries, I'd like to see a source for that data.

There you have it; the average American makes 27% more.
That's because the site is converting the currencies to CAD. (They list the USD right below each item). If we are going to compare the prices of Pay TV between the US and canada,

CA net salary is 3,137.00 Canadian dollars
US net salary is 3,030.63 US dollars

The previously posted Pay TV package costs for Canada (in Canadian dollars) was slightly higher as well, as comfortably_numb posted. So the cost to salary ratio is similar.

3137 C$ (canadian dollars)
3994 C$ (canadian dollars)
2380 $ (US dollars)
3030 $ (US dollars)

Add your health care insurance and tax burden and see how that compares to the Canadians tax burden, guessing that will get rid of most of the difference.

My personal situation is probably not a good comparison, but I get your point. I actually had to go to the ER when I was working up there due to a hyperextended knee injury. There was no place to pay at the end!

That said, things have changed since then. Now you must get insurance if you travel to a different province, which is a weird thing to do for a national health system.

Could we close this stupid thread? If you want to discuss exchanges rates or Claude's saga could you please start new topics? Of course if you do that no one will be listening to you.
