I didn't want to make a new topic but the other one is too old.
I am thinking of getting the HD-A3 but we only have an old receiver that doesn't do DTS decoding. Is there any way to get a 5.1 channel output to the receiver? It sounded like it only sends it as a dts stream. Is there someway to choose normal dolby digital sound option? What audio streams do most HD-DVDs have and is there one that will send unencoded 5.1 to a receiver via the optical out? Thanks.
By the way my receiver is Yamaha HTR-5140. We do plan to get a new one but we are saving up and could take a few months.

You're in luck. The A3 converts Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus (not DTS, DTS-HD, DTS-MA) to Dolby Digital for the optical output. The 2nd gen players (A2) send full bitrate DTS out of the optical port.
