HD Box w/ SD TV

Hey there, new guy here. I've got a bunch of old DSR6000r TIVO's with beefed up hard drives but am now thinking about upgrading to the new hi-tech stuff.

Can I use an H22 on a standard TV and without HD programing? I'm not ready to put out for a new TV just yet but want to be able utilize all the new stuff on DirectTV's DVR's.

Suggestions?

I dont see why not.

I've used HD receivers before on a SDTV and it worked fine

(I assume you REALLY meant HR22, since there is no such thing as an H22...)

Unless you live in an MPEG4 locals market, D* will NOT activate any H2x or HR2x receivers on any account w/out HD access activated as well...

Yeah, my entire time with VOOM I only had SD TVs. Still loved the service. Miss them!

You will need HD enabled on your account but it will work fine. I have been using a HD receiver with my old Sony SD TV (hoping that it would die, but it is still working fine after 22 years without a problem). I watch the HD channels instead of the SD equivalents. Even on a SD display you can tell the difference.
