Most of sales/customer service reps will tell you it will not work. However I have the 8300HD on my non hd set just for that reason the additional channels and better sound.

B blacknoi Member Jul 19, 2006 11 0 Oct 30, 2006 #5 Be advised that if you have a 4200 and swap for a 4200hd, the 4200hd is a "slower" box in general (changing channels etc). But you will get the extra channels that are in HD, in a letterbox format, 480i output.
