HD Locals in San Antonio

Currently, FOX's SD channel is on Dish, so unless they're going to charge a premium for HD (which sounds illegal, as does charging for SD, since it's broadcast TV), this should be a non-issue.

Somebody has to pay for the satellite, uplink costs, electricity, etc. I can betcha D* and E* barely break even on providing the locals.

I just got installed with a Dish 411 today, how will I know when my San Antonio locals in HD are available?

Go here, enter your e-mail address in the Receive E-mail Alerts field, hit submit and read it from the horses mouth the minute it's announced.

You should be able to specify in your box's setup if you want SD or HD channels mapped down to your local numbers. If you enable HD mapp down, then it will happen automatically. You'll be able to tell it happened by either looking at the programming or (at least on a 622) using the "All HD" Guide filter, which should show your locals if they are in HD.

jrfuda, I understand that Dish carries FOX in SD, but so does Time Warner Cable, but KABB (I believe it is) wants to charge extra for their HD signal, and TW has said no, hence they don't carry FOX-HD. So I'm hoping Dish works it out with FOX, as I really don't want to have to put up an antenna, if I don't have to,

borfhead. Thanks for the info. That's just silly! They're saying to TWC,and maybe others "I'm going to charge you to increase my viewership." That's pretty silly.

The only reason I could see them doing it is becuase they do not want to incur the expense of whatever hardware is needed to make it happen, if any is needed. According to the HD engineer over at KENS-5, They provide their signal(s) to the cable and sattelite companies via fiber (so they do not get them OTA). I'm assuming that KABB and the other locals do the same, so perhaps they do not have the bandwidth on their fiber to send the signal to the cable and sat companies, however, if those companies were to pay for that bandwidth, then it would happen.

Considering Fox is currently the #1 station (I don't understand how, I don't think I watch anything on Fox anymore but the occasional Simpsons episode, though I hear 24 is good.. I gues American Idol really brings the numbers in for them) it seems like they should get more than enough ad revenue to cover the cost of a littl ebit of bandwidth that will bring them even MORE ad revenue!

Here is a list for those who have not seen it.

I get SA as significantly viewed(2 stations,cbs/nbc), will I get the HD version. So far only the sd version is available. Now I know KSAT isn't up yet, but still I only see the sd version of CBS. S I am assuming that just because you can see stations as signficantly viewed doesn't mean you can get the HD version.

The only locals available are CBS and FOX. They were added on 5/13/06. I called Dish and asked bout NBC and ABC, and they confirmed that those two stations had not sighned approval letters yet. Once they do, they will be added.

I just called Dish to ask them where the ABC and NBC HD feeds are at b/c the NBA finals start this week on ABC. TWC here in San Antonio has had the locals in HD for over a year, and Dish still has not loaded ABC and NBC!!

The Customer service rep did not have any info. Has anyone heard any new news on this?

Local San Antonio ABC HD Channel was activated yesterday!!! Now we only need NBC to complete the lineup.

Now if they'd only stop showing all their SD content on HD in "stretchovision" we'd be OK. What are they thinking?

I just got my 622 and was pulling KSAT via OTA and the stretch is horrible. I am a big college football fan (can you guess the team?) and they had better get rid of that distortion before the season starts. I know the new Sat. night game is going to be in HD, but I am guessing the regional ones during the day won't be.

I also don't want to be watching the British Open this week in stretch!

Now, WOAI just needs to get on the stick and round out the line-up.

Just signed up for dish service. I am getting it installed on the 11th. Has anyone heard when WOAI (nbc) will be in HD? How about KSAT not being in super stretch?

Was hoping to know what the issue was before the guy showed up. Not that he could do anything about it, but at least for my own metal well being.
