HD ONLY Package Pricing at Dish Network..

Voom10($5) + $5 access charge = Pay Dish $10 a month to get the 10 Voom channels. I believe my original post is correct. Already getting what's in Dish's HD pack(and more) from cable. I would still like confirmation on the physical hookup.

20 bucks a mth will cover it....if I were in charge at Dish I would transfer the all the HD ch's to one sat. This way one dish would cover it. 20 bucks a mth is really a good deal for 15 HD ch's.....but Im still going to wait to see what Direct does. If DTV doesnt act by the summer Im switching to dish. Without a doubt.

No, you have to have the original hd pak ($10) first in order to qualify for the Voom pak ($5) + the $5 access fee. This is what I have with Dish now.

That is correct. The channels have not been mirrored yet but they will.
Sean, I live in Arizona, is that considered the West coast because I am getting the HD pack + VOOM originals + the outdoor channel tomorrow. Already had the two Dishes from before Voom. One @ 110/119 and one @ 61.5. I just bought a 921 @ Costco for $489. Hope that was not a mistake. Total per month, $4.99, 6 month free hd pack then $9.99, $1.99 for the outdoor channel and $5.00 for the access fee.

Thanks, I did not understand that that the HD Pack is a pre-req. $20 a month makes it a tougher call.

If you can swing it, I hope you go for it. I feel that $20 for 15 hd channels is a no brainer. A couple can't go out once a month for a decent dinner for $20. Of course, you have to own a receiver to get this ala carte hd pak.

I think it is worth it, the only channel I really want is MonstersHD, to make up the $20.00, I am going to drop Starz (almost all the new movies are up-converts ) and Showtime ( because hardly any new movies ) from Comcast, but gain the Voom Channels and HD-Net and HD-Movies ( I already get Discovery, ESPN and TNT on Comcast ) so with my locals I will have about 24 different HD Channels, cool.

Sean --

Nice post. I was going to do this the other night while hanging at the "Last Hours of Voom Chat". Now if we could get just the premium HD movie channels too, I would drop the rest lickity split.

Sure miss the low cost of Va-Voom compared to what we are paying now for the "Everything Pack".

CSR told me 'no' for HD-only

I spoke with an "Account Specialist" at E* and was told "no" for HD only programming. The gentleman was very nice, quite professional, and said he'd be happy to do it, but couldn't find a way to get the E* system to accept it. Has anyone actually been able to subscribe to just the two HD packages? If so, how did you manage to get the CSR's to agree?

I have Dish HD pack only for over a year now and I think I can add Voom HD to it if I want to, don't see why not. However, I used to have one of their basic packages and then dropped it to HD pack only. I am not sure iwould you, as a new customer, be able to get just HD pack. You may have to get the cheapest basic package with HD pack and then drop the basic pack.
Dish sucks.

I called yesterday with the same issue, at first I was told there was no option to get HD only. When i told them I would do my own install and use my own equipment they confirmed the HD package only was ok.
I have purchased a 811 unit on ebay for $ 200 should be up and running in a few.

That's what I tried, but still wasn't able to get just the HD pack. Worse yet, they wanted $100 to replace my old Dish500 and my 18" V* antennas with, for all intensive purposes, the exact same things. Perhaps it's just a matter of playing "CSR Roulette" again.

Doesn't sound the same to me, do you have all the LNB's and proper switches required?
Also the Voom LNB wont work for Dish HD channels and the Voom dish wont accept a Dish LNB unless you come up with a custom mount I suppose.

Reading elsewhere it sounds like the VOOM dish and LNB (legacy) work just fine with Dish receivers. Am I reading this wrong??

I believe Legacy should work fine. From my understanding (from another thread), Legacy equipment is compatible with Rainbow1 as well as E* at 119 and 110. I have a Legacy mobile marine 16" dish that I have successfully tested with both V* and E* at those locations (V* on the boat for the summer...too good to be true as it turns out!). My problem wasn't with getting any equipment to work, rather with the CSR's not allowing me to sign up for HD-only. Or for that matter sign up for anything without a wasted $100 re-installation of replacement dishes. So if any of you have had success with E* and getting HD-only, please pass along the magic words you used.

I think the voom lnb should work, I used a D* and LNB and just pointed to 61.5 to get Voom. When I asked about a year ago, the word was that they were interchangeable. Unless there is an issue with the E* STB and a Voom lnb. the Voom lnb should work. I think they will come up with an option for use of the 61.5, its early in this switch to dish, and they don't have it figured out yet. I had an installer come out in April to switch me to Dish, but he could not get 110 because of a tree. He knew in April that Dish was buying the Voom package and said he thought they might want to do something for folks that can't aim except at 61.5. Just be patient I know the HD jitters are setting in.

Sound advice on the "HD gitters". But there's also some "Adelphia critters" behind my motivation. I'll just keep telling myself "all good things to those who wait"..."all good things to those who wait"..."all HD to those who wait"...

The Voom dish and lnb are compatible with the Dish 500, if, and only if, your Dish 500 is Legacy with Legacy lnb. Then all of your switches will have numbers beginning with SW--xx. All new Dish equipment is Dish Pro. Dish Pro dishes have arms that attach to lnb with different shape than Legacy arms/lnb. All Dish Pro switches have numbers beginning witth DP-xx.

It is confusing when lots of folks post about compatability and non compatability without specifying what kind of equipment they have.

Mixman, I know your pain, I've actually been freaking out with two voom systems at home and vacation condo, I first tried to get Dish, nope big tree, now at the vacation condo I just added Time Warner cable hd pack this past weekend and was pleased with what I saw, they had ABC, NBC, FOX and PBS in HD, a couple of IND HD channels, Discovery, ESPN HD and lots of ondamand stuff that was new to me. I added this to the condo and my blood pressure went down. Saturday am I get Comcast at Home with a HD package and just hope that is decent. My girlfriend thinks I'm nuts since this all started out with D*, she thinks I may be able to hire out as a HD TV consultant. :) I know none of this helps your boat situation, but consider it group therapy.

To buy the DVR is $699
2 Dishes would probably be $200

You can price it out at Dishstore

Now that there's all this HD content I'm think of finally springing for the HDDVR, heck I paid $860 in programming costs alone last year, so if I knock my bill down to only $5 a month with credits and buy a dVR it would be worth it. I just hope they'd upgrade my owned DVR to an owned MPEG4 box, at least that'ss what I'm banking on
That brings up an interesting question. If I pay the $250 upfront for the 942 receiver/DVR, What happens in a year if they go to mpeg4? I wonder if they will give me the latest HD receive/DVR and/or will I have to pay another fee?
