HD PPV Channels

Superbad is on HD-PPV. I'm so there.

Oh wait. Yeah, the HD PPV movies have always been slim pickings. I had hoped that these new channels would have had some new DRM so that the lawyers of the MPAA would be appeased and some decent titles would start showing up.

Of course looking over the existing SD PPV channels has hardly impressed me either. My wife wanted to get "Premonition" last week in SD. I made her get it upstairs on the 27" TV because of PQ (it looks ok up there, but not downstairs on the Plasma). Movie stank though. Think Groundhog day meets the Lifetime Channel movie of the week.

I did search ahead and next weekend Disturbia starts on one of the HD PPV channels so I hope that at least one of the new channels is used for brand new premieres. Right now pretty well blows.

I agree. I would love to watch 300 in HD, and my kids would love Happy Feet. I hate to spend the money when it's not HD.

I hate to beat this dead horse. However, the HD PPV channels should not be 1440x1080. That resolution is really 4:3 stretched to 16:9. Upconverted DVD's on my HD-DVD player should NOT look better than HD PPV movies costing $5 a pop.

I used to spend nearly $100/month in PPV. I pared that down after I went HD. I stopped it completely after I realized my upconverted DVD's looked better. Bad, Dish Network! You lost yourself a good bit of moolah!

Back to the original topic, the lineup is quite lacking. Yeah, I want to view movies (Casino Royale, Bridge to Terabithia, Black Snake Moan) that have been out on HD optical for months on PPV for $5 a pop.

I could be wrong but 1440x1080 is a lot more resolution than 720x480. Even though PPV channels are not full HD, it still is better than DVDs. An upconverted DVD is still has the source material @ 720x480. Just my two cents.

Size doesnt matter. Its what you do with it that counts. Oh wait. We ARE talking about HD right?

I'm interested in more Dish HD PPV if they get more variety of films. These titles that are available in HD-DVD I'll get from Netflix in their full HD glory.
