Finally dumping my old analog and getting an HD TV. Can anyone tell me if Dish Network broadcasts their programs (even local) in 16:9 ratio? Will it cost me anything to upgrade to an HD receiver?

Dish sends the 16:9 if the channel is in 16:9. Dish does not change what the channel sends. Many "HD" channels are limited to the amount of HD they send out (i.e. only their newer shows). If Dish carries your locals in HD, your locals prime time will be almost all HD, but during the day it is a mix. So, it really depends on what your favorite channels do, but HD content is really going up fast on all channels.
