So yesterday, to my delight, i get a call from Directv offering all the movie channels free for 3 months. I of course accepted and happily went home from work to set the DVR and browse the new on demand content at my finger tips.

To my dismay, every time i tried to watch something, i would get a flickering screen and the dreaded HDCP message about using Component instead of HDMI. 1st of all, this is completely unacceptable, though from what i read, its not completely directv's fault.

Secondly, and much more confusing, is that a few weeks ago, they had one of those free viewing weekends for the movie channels. During that weekend, i was able to view the channels just fine. Surely something hasnt changed in the past few weeks that suddenly made my TV non-HDCP compliant. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try rebooting the receiver and power cycling the TV, reestablish the handshake.

Also if anything is in-line on the HDMI from receiver to TV (such as an audio device) try it without that.
