HDMI Cable Quality

I use cheap (under $6) cables and could never justify the more expensive options.

What are your thoughts on HDMI cables related to their cost?

Are the ones supplied by Dish installer of good quality?

The Dish installer does not supply the cable, it comes in the box with the receiver. I have never had a problem with Dish HDMI cables.

I'm guessing he was trying to say cables DO fail, and no one can guarantee that every cable will work all the time.

Question makes sense now that you have edited it. Yes, I've had HDMI cables before which didn't work properly.

I've never had a bad one and I never spend more than I have to. The cheap ones always work for me.

The Dish cables have worked fine for me. Otherwise get them at monoprice. No reason to spend big money on cables.

I have purchased Amazon Brand and some from Monoprice, they are cheap and work fine.
Maybe when used with Hopper 3 and 4K there could be problems.

It seems to me that the cable issue would be the integrity of the plug itself, right? The material of the conduit the signal travels through makes no difference, since we're dealing with a totally binary signal -- it's either on or off.

Not necessarily. Interference can still cause corruption of the data stream in a poorly designed cable.

I've had one of the cheap ones from Walmart be intermittent, it didn't work unless you wiggled it.

I had some cables that caused "sparkles" on my PS3. After numerous back and forth cable swapping, I finally found a cable that worked.
