My HDTV is ordered so I am trying to use an HD box for my dish with a regular TV. Is this possible? I tried setting it up yesterday and the screen said searching for satellite signal. Is there something I am missing? I am not sure if the installer has to do something first to view the signal strenth from the dish. Please help.

HD receivers can be set to 480i and output any satellite signal via s-video to your SD TV.
Have you subscribed before/current or new?
Has the HD receiver been activated yet?
What HD receiver make & model and dish are you using? (Two separate hardware items)
What is your service zip so we can determine if your dish is aimed correctly.

re: HD Receiver, NO HGTV.
I am a new customer. I would assume the satellite is pointed in the correct direction because my DVR receiver works fine. I was not there when the guy installed my wife was. I am not sure if he activated the HD receiver. How can I find out? ZIP IS 08054.

OK, so you are a new sub that just had a professional install done and he left without having the HD receiver working?
But what model dish? Is it a 1, 3, or 5 LNB dish?
Are there any switches in the lines or just straight from the dish to the outlets?
