HDTV without paying the subscription price?

Can I just buy a HD tv Tuner box by Dish Network off ebay and get all the HD channels in HD? I have a 311 and all i need to get HD is to get one of the HDTV tuners from dish right?

Umm, no. Read the title. You must subscribe to the HD Pak in order to receive HD channels from DISH Network.

The only channels you'll pick up without subscribing are the locals through an OTA on the boxes tuner. You could probably find a set top off air tuner for less money than a 6000 or 811 anyway.

And you get HBO-HD or SHO-HD if you subscribe to the SD HBO or SHO.

The HD box is also very useful for an ATSC OTA tuner. However, the OTA tuner doesn't seem to work on the 811 if it is NOT connected to the dish. At least, that has been my experience.
