i just got direct tv i have a old 18 inch direct dish and lnb can i still use it or do i have to buy new dish

That depends. Did you actually get an install, or are you only scheduled? If so, are you getting hd or sd? Hd will require a new dish. Sd may, if your locals are on the 119 satellite.

Why is (or did) the OP NOT have D* install the entire thing, which of course comes with the (FREE) required dish included?
