I have a triple LNB directv system and i'm currently running one receiver off of it. The receiver is just your typical directv standard receiver, whichever ones they were using in the beginning of this year. I'm not too savvy when it comes to dishes but I was able to install my first dish myself. A tree recently fell on my house and damaged my dish, and instead of a $70 service call to directv, i decided to look in the classifieds adn find someone willing to sell a triple LNB oval dish. I bought the dish, hooked it all up and had all of the settings correct, wiggled it around a bit and still could not get a signal. I did an "auto detect" on the receiver and it said it failed at step 3 of auto detect. I called directv and they said this is because it could not detect the LNB. Could it be a bad LNB being that it was a used dish, or could I have other problems that I"m not seeing?

Thanks

Mike

Spend some money and get someone out that has parts and knowledge, or by trial and error spend the same money buying used questionable parts.

Makes sense. I just have my satellite set up a different way and don't think that DirecTV would really approve of it. It's all legal, no hacks, etc....just have one of my receivers and dishes at a residence that isn't mine...and that's the one I"m having problems with. I am splitting my D* bill with a friend and we're sharing an account, so I'm going to try to lay low and not get caught.

Actually that is ILLEGAL. :(

I don't know if that's illegal, but you're certainly violating your usage agreement with DirecTV.

Keep in mind, no satellite or cable company likes that.

Shame on you ;)

And we all complain about higher rates....... kind of like telling the shoplifter not to worry, I'll pick up the tab.

Actually, I don't really see a problem with sharing an account. It's not stealing, we're paying for the service. What would be the difference in having the extra receiver at my house rather than at his apartment 4 miles away?

Anyways, the question was....could it possibly be a bad LNB? If so, do I have to have a triple or double LNB to replace it?

Any input on that question would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

Mike

It's called stacking an account, maybe you should call DirecTV and have them send a tech out to fix the problem, then you and your friend can split the bill for the service call. I don't see any problem with sharing the service call bill.
