Those cities are no doubt the remaining locals that Dish doesn't carry in HD.

I know that Lima OH was in the 180 range of DMAs.

Also a fair amount of those markets have imported stations (as they arent a full market otherwise). What sucks for those folks is the imported locals MAY be in HD but because the locals arent they get no HD.

Mankato as example. They get ABC & NBC from Minneapolis. But since CBS Mankato isnt in HD (Fox is 480i widescreen) those folks cant get ABC & NBC in HD

They're saying these 5 areas will have partial functionality.

- Cheyenne, Wyoming
- Fairbanks, Alaska
- Juneau, Alaska
- Panama City, Florida
- Topeka, Kansas

Their locals are in HD but missing 1 net. Only the HD channels will record

St. Joseph, MO should be included based on that criteria as well. The NBC, CBS, and Fox are in HD from Kansas City but the ABC is SD only from St. Joseph. Luckily I live 45 minutes north of St. Joe and am considered KC, MO locals by Dish and get them all in HD.

Just under 2% of the households in the US... Tyler Longview largest of the DMAs #107

different rules. Since the ABC in St Joe is not in HD the imported KC ones arent in HD either.

Facinating that is only 2%..........I would have never guessed right.

Well even less I just looked last census 131,704,730 housing units. This is 1.9 million homes. But does not cover Puerto Rico since it is not a DMA, so under 2%

Understanding the scale of the problem is a big part of the question.

I'm not at all surprised by these results and clearly Dish has focused on the highest population markets if the lowest without coverage is not in the top 100 markets.

I agree, even though, compared to the big picture. There is still a ton of households that can't get any hd locals.

Puerto Rico has 1.1 million homes of which 98% are estimated to have TVs. If Puerto Rico was considered a DMA it would be around 30th in size. Approximately the size of KC DMA.

Add the Virgin Islands and other Caribbean Islands served in this market and it is even larger.
