my location is about 35 miles north east of tampa florida.

You should be able to go lower than that. Hopefully someone that is in that area (or the southern US) can chime in

the problem is that when you start getting that far east there are not to many satellites with a beam pointed to north america, most of those satellites are pointed at europe.

actually just checking another site the next satellite with KU is 15W

If you are going to dedicate this dish to birds close to the horizon, there is a small change you might want to make.
As is, when the rim of the dish is vertical , your dish looks up 24 degrees or so.
If it's difficult to get it to aim a lot lower, you can make a mod.

You rotate the dish and mount 180° on the pole, so the LNB arm is on top and the LNB hangs down.
(for most dishes, that would require disassembling the mount from the pole, rotate, and reattach)
Now, when the rim is vertical, the dish is actually looking 24° downward.
Obviously, you only have to tilt the dish back (up toward the sky) and capture all the low satellites.
Up to you to work out how the elevation reads, though.

edit: here's a very old thread on the subject, along with some pictures.

Thanks guys for bringing up the inverted dish topic. :)

I was trying to figure out a way to point that low with a fixed Ku dish.

Now that I've read the old threads, I want to try it for White Springs.
For me 129°W is around 16.8° elevation.
