New channel will feature movies for the entire family.

Washington, D.C. (February 9, 2008) -- DIRECTV will debut the Hallmark Movie Channel's high-def simulcast channel on April 2.

That's according to an article by Multichannel News.

Hallmark tells the publication that other TV providers have agreed to carry the new channel in the second quarter. The company did not reveal names or launch dates, but said TV services will not have to pay extra to carry the high-def simulcast.

Consequently, any TV provider that now carries the SD version of the Hallmark Movie Channel could add the high-def signal for free.

Hallmark Movie Channel HD will feature noted 'Hallmark Hall of Fame' movies as well as theatrical releases such Annie and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

The new channel is expected to target households looking for films for the entire family.

Hallmark said a high-def simulcast of the Hallmark Channel is coming, but probably not this year, Multichannel News reported.

Regardless...it's the word "FREE" that got my attention. Can't imagine the Hallmark Movie Channel being too costly to add anyway.
