Hi,

First time post over here...converting from Dish to DirecTV tomorrow. I did some searches, didn't find my questions answered elsewhere, so here goes...

My Dish HD DVR had Homeplug bult in. Basically I had the small unit attached to my modem plugged into a wall socket, and my Dish receiver plugged right into a wall socket and it picked up the internet connection.

Is there any such thing with the DirecTV HD DVR receiver? Or do I need to purchase another 'homeplug' unit to run an ethernet line out of and into the receiver?

You can buy one of several supported wireless N adapters like the wet610 or wga600n, or any homeplug adapter. If you're going to use the connection as a phone line replacement and for video on demand, any one will do. If you're going to want to use multi room viewing on it, you'll want the wireless N or 200Mb/s powerline adapters. Pulling a wire is best if you can do it.
