Hopper 3 and Xbox One issues

On the 54 remote, you have to press the microphone button to get the receiver to respond to voice commands. My Wally turns on as soon as I press the microphone button (or any other button, for that matter). Not only do I not have to say any voice command, I don't even get the chance to say a voice command to try to turn the receiver on, since it is already on at that point. :)
I push and hold down the button when I say turn receiver on and nothing happens ,but I could be in the wrong mode when I first turn my a/v receiver and tv on.
