Or recording. Live tv or recording doesn't matter, how many tuners in use does.
The goal of my question was to pick between two Hoppers and a Hopper/Super Joey configuration. Of course if a new Hopper that supports three clients comes along...

Out of four TVs, the chances should be relatively high that at least one TV is playing a recording.

If seeing if he is a candidate for a SJ you would want to take his recording style into account. It plays just as large a role as live viewing from anyone of the TVs. With how particular you are on things, this is something i figured you wouldn't have left out. Fact is if he really only watches one tv at a time, but records almost everything, the SJ is likely the best bet.

I make it a rule every tv must have an available tuner at all times.
And then Minimum 1 extra for recording.
I would never have more Joeys then I have a live tuner for.

So 4 tvs I wouldn't take anything less than a Hopper and Super Joey.
I don't care if it's only used once a month. :) But that's just me.
But I would wait until tonight before making any decisions.
That is for sure.
You are making a big mistake if you dont.

I just watched the Dish CES press conference online -- and they said the Hopper 3 will be available this month. I believe they said it will cost an additional $15 per month. And it DOES have 16 tuners.
