most people think that grounding and useing surge protectors will stop lightning.. it wont.. if it can jump 5000ft+ it WILL get through a surge protector. grounding is for the major purpose of static charge discharge, and balance of the dish/house electical circuit. surge protectors do just that .. prevent spikes in voltage

Grounding helps with lighting in one way. It disapates the static build-up on the dish from wind blowing across it. Static is what can draw a lighting strike. Even if it's grounded a strike will smoke everything on the system.
