How long does it take to become a "new customer"

If I cancel dish network now, how long will it be until I'm counted as a new customer again? Do they do it by phone number?

They use your social security number. I've heard 6 months. I was actually 1 1/2 years and I got treated as new.

The official response is 2 years.

It really depends on if they even took your SSN initially.

Whatever deal you're trying to get as a new sub won't exist in 2 years or even 6 months.

Never, but you can become a returning customer (almost as good as new) after 6 months.

Why not play the gimme game if the satellite and cable companies let them play it?

Well, my dad is a current dish customer for about 10yrs. He wanted to get an HD upgrade, but he doesnt want to pay $200 (99 install fee + $100 to change 2 SD boxes to HD eventhough they are connected to regular tvs. They told him 6months so he wants to switch to comcast for 6mo. I thought it was longer.

They changed the policy. It used to be 3 years, but I've now heard 6 months.

I have no idea but I switched back to DISH after 6 months and I had no problem getting promotions that new customers get.

Any idea how they track you? I know for directv it is by phone number. That is how I got the new customer offer.
