I upgraded to a larger EHD for my 211k and now I want to reformat the old drive for use on my PC with Win XP. Windows will not recognize the drive, making it impossible to reformat. Does anyone know how to do this?
I have an old PC running Ubuntu Linux, and it does see the drive and all the files, but will not let me delete or change anything. Obviously, DISH are using Linux for their firmware. Must I trash the drive or can I re-use it? Any help would be appreciated.

You don't need special software. Control Panel/Administrative tools/Computer Management/Storage/Disk Management...right click on unknown drive...format.

I finally got this to work. For anyone interested, here's how:
1) With the EHD powered up and connected to a USB port on the PC
2) Reboot the PC - it hung and would not load Windows (XP)
3) Remove the EHD from the USB and Windows resumes booting.
4) When Windows starts to boot, re-insert the EHD via the USB
5) Go through CP, Admin etc. and Bingo! There's the drive.
6) Reformat NTFS and all is well.
Thanks guys for your advice.
