HR20/700 DVR Format Issues

For a long time I have set up my receiver in the native/letterbox mode without any problem but in recent days the SD channels are displayed in the funhouse-mirror, stretched-out format which I find objectionable and unwatchable.

No changes in format settings or the rebooting of the receivers ( I have identical HD DVR's with the same problem) will change the format.

I would welcome any suggestions.

Although DTV does not yet carry local network HD in this market, I have noticed that the local network content that in the past was 480 is now delivered in 720P resolution.

If the TV reverted to factory settings somehow, I bet it's set to stretch the picture. That's usually the default to head off the "my HDTV must be broken" calls from uninformed people.
