I've been a DirecTV+Sunday Ticket subscriber for 11 years. I've HD since day one of the HR10-250. If there is a 5 heart subscriber, its me :D I called to upgrade for the upcoming MPEG4 and was told that because of my outstanding status I could get the HD-DVR, 5 LNB dish and install for only $99 ($200 off). I thought that was a good deal...seems I was wrong :(

Well that's a bunch of crap (for me). I just called not 20 minutes ago to ask about this and was told how great a customer I am, in good standing, blah blah blah, and they offer me the HR20 for $199, saying that's $100 of the usual price and nothing else. Yeah, that's nonsense. I mean, I order every UFC PPV, this will be my 4th year with ST, and I have most of the premium channels and HD and that's all they offer me. I haven't asked for a thing in two years.

Same here.

11 years with DTV, sunday ticket every year, center ice every year.

I was one of the first HR10-250 HD-DVR owners (paid $999 for it!).

The rep offered me $99 and said it was by far the best deal she's ever seen!

Jeez...

Saw I got charged for Super Fan today.

I called regular customer service, since retention wasn't in yet. She agreed to waive the SF charges - it just took her 15-20 mins to get it done.

I've been a sub for about 10 yrs and have ST, MLB, College Football Game Plan and March Madness. When I called the first time to upgrade my 2nd HD DVR I was going to pay $199 (which was $299 minus a $100 credit on my account). But before they could schedule a install the computer went down. So they put through the credit and asked me to call back tomorrow for an install time. So I call back the next day an tell the story and the CS ask me if I'm keeping the ST and I say yes, so she said ok I'll cancel you previous order and give you the HD DVR for free, plus I received the $100 credit.

I think any deal any of us get depends on who you talk to, I for one never would dream of a deal like the one I received.

I called to order 2 x HR-20's to replace my 10-250's. As always, I immediatly asked for customer retention. She would not transfer me until I told her what I wanted. I told her and she gave me the $199.00 price. I told her that people were getting them for free and that I wanted to be transfered. She finally did and they are sending me 2 HR-20's for no charge. Customer retention is your friend. Just be nice and see what they will do for you.

Cheers,

Bill

This is too funny - I called in to complain that I was charged $99 for this leased unit, and I also have to chuck a $1000 unit I bought only a few years ago.

The first guy I got was completely useless - basically "sorry sir, is there anything else I can do for you?" I said that I was unhappy with his response and considering cancelling DTV. He just repeated "I'm sorry, is there anything else I can do for you?". I said that Dish has a much better offer and he basically told me to go ahead and take it.

So I hung up and called back in. Next person was completely opposite - I said that I was unhappy about being charged $99 for a unit that I will be leasing, and that I had been with them for a long time, had purchased a $1000 DVR only a few years ago, etc...she told me that she understood completely and said that she couldn't credit me directly, but that she was sending me to customer service and she said to tell them that Dish has a better offer! So I got sent to customer service (retention I suppose) and they credited the $99 in about 2 minutes.

Ok - so I called this evening and got the HD DVR for $199. She initially offered it for $249 but then went to $199.

Then I read this thread (should have done so first) and am thinking about calling to see if they will redo the deal to $99 (or better). Install is Sept 15.

What's my chances? I guess the worst that will happen is that I get it for $199 which isn't the end of the world.

Call back, tell them you want to cancel the order, that your local cable company is giving away hd dvr's for free and free premiums for 6 month's. That's what I did and got HR20 free but only 3 months of premiums.

Another option is to e-mail to Customer Service. I had the upgrade to 5-LNB and an H20 installed for the standard $99 and then found out that a relative got the same install for $14.95 (tax on receiver??). When I asked them how they got that deal they said that they didn't do anything....simply called to upgrade and the CSR said that since they were such good, long standing, customers they'd get this deal.

So, I e-mailed Customer Service and complained that I was not offered a deal like that and I had been a customer longer then them. I said in the e-mail that I'd think a customer of my standing (DTV since '98, Sunday Ticket and MLBEI every year) should get the HD-DVR for free.

I received a reply e-mail that a Customer Service Specialist would be contacting me. The next day they called and left a different number and a PIN for me to call. I called that number, entered the PIN and was immediately connected to a "specialist".

This person was very nice, read through my complaint and then offered me the HR20 for $19.95 and 1-year free DVR service to make up for the $99 charge in the first upgrade. :up

Update.... called back today and the CSR said there was no way they could do anything so I asked to speak to a supervisor. She said that I would get the same answer. I thanked her but said I would like to anyway.

Supervisor said I had agreed to it and I said yes, yes I had, but I had spoken to some D subs and was aware of some people getting if for free and I felt that due to the status of my account I should get the same deal.

She went off for a while but came back and said I would indeed get the HD DVR for free. Everyone was real nice and civil during the whole process.

Cheers guys!

Yep, me too, I managed to get the free HR20 just by calling and asking what upgrades were available. The $199 deal came up first and I mentioned E* and she put me on hold, came back and said she could do better and I got the HR20 for $20 bucks shipping. Sorry V. Life is good here with D*

I just called D* retention dept to inquire about getting the new HR20. I told them that I heard people getting it for free. This is what I got for $21.15 (and a 2 yr commitment).

1. HR20
2. Tech to check my dish alignment (been having probs with signal during rain)
3. Free SuperFan (I think I already had that, though)
4. Get to keep my H20
5. Get to keep my R15
6. Save 4.99/month with 1 less receiver

Wow, I wish I would have called sooner!

Is there a special number for the retention department?

No, you have to call the main number and have a rep transfer you. Others have also said that if you say "cancel" at the voice prompt you will be sent to retention, but I have never tried that.

You got to play the CSR roulette game. I had the same experiance you had, i hung up and called back and got a different reply - then the bulb went off. Now I call a couple times to always get the best deal possible.

Thanks all -- you've helped me get a decent deal, too!

Wow, I can't thank you guys enough! I've been visiting this site for years just reading the posts, and within the last 48 hrs. I've discovered:

1) I can get NYC HD locals via DNS, which was the only reason I hadn't upgraded to D* HD yet (I live in the middle of nowhere PA, so my locals aren't beamed in HD and I'm too far for OTA)

2) By asking to speak with retention I was able to get the HR20 for $99, free installation and one year free of HD svc. I have the everything package plus NFL, MLB & NHL packages, so I give them a lot of $$$ each month, so I was trying to get the receiver for free but she held firm at $99, which I can't really complain about.

So, thanks for everything gang, and hopefully I'll start posting some more!
