I recently got a new UHD TV and when I check the display resolution on HD channels it always displays 480P which is not HD. Is the receiver defective; it's suppose to support up to 1080P? According to my bill, I get HD free for having auto pay.

The maximum resolution you will get from regular broadcasts is 1080I. There are some pay programs that will display in 1080P. You can not get UHD with the HR24.
You can change the resolution in the HR24 settings. If it is already set to display 1080i, you need to hold down the Exit button on the remote until it changes back to HD.

The receiver is not set for 1080.

Kind of sucks because the receiver defaults to 480 from the factory and most installers don’t take the time to change the settings.

75% of the time I go to service calls and the receiver is not set for HD.

I always hear “wow that picture looks way better” whenever I leave

Can't understand why Directv doesn't have the receivers use EDID to figure out what the display is capable of, and automatically configure themselves. It shouldn't be possible for someone to have a receiver connected to a TV via HDMI that's not set for HD. Terrible software from Directv, as per usual.
