new customer to directv here as of Monday....this is a great forum, tons of knowledge. i've read numerous threads on this topic, but i'm still not quite sure on the details so i thought i'd ask.

had my install on Monday. HR20-700 upstairs, HR24-700 in the basement with MVR. everything is working flawlessly including the MVR. my HR20 is a little spotty, had a couple crashes/freezes already and i was hoping for a HR24 at the time of install, but it wasn't available. So i ordered an HR24-500 today.

Here is my current setup, question to follow:
Upstairs
HR20-700
Coax from wall feeds into a 2 way splitter
1 lead from the splitter --> DECA --> Sat 2 input
1 lead from the splitter --> band stop filter --> Sat 1 input

Downstairs
HR24-700
Coax from wall --> SWM power inserter --> Sat 1 input

from what i've gathered so far, i can simply swap all the cables from my HR20 to the HR24 when it gets here and everything will be fully functional. My question is: is this correct and even if so is there a more optimal way to set things up now with the internal DECA on the HR24?

Absolutely not. The HR20-700 is a whole different beast then the HR-24.

Take the line Right before that 2way splitter, put it off the splitter, toss the splitter, deca, bsfilter and everything aside. So now you JUST have the cable, attach that to input 1 and you are good to go.

DO NOT put that deca and bs filter on your HR-24, under no circumstances.

I was under the impression that only the HR20-100 needed to be setup in that configuration.

Are all the lights on the deca unit green and stay green, and what are they doing when the freezes and crashes occur?

thanks, Dave. i'm glad i asked now. and yes, you are correct, it is an HR20-100. the lights on the DECA are green and stay green. i haven't looked at them when the unit crashes. the crashes seem to be a problem with the DVR. when i'm recording one show and change the channel, the unit will sometimes freeze up. it's a random thing, sometimes it freezes, other times its fine.

one more question. on the H24 unit downstairs, the coax from the wall is going to an SWM power inserter, which then feeds into the receiver. i don't need another power inserter for the new HR24? and just for my clarification, why not?
