I recently heard Pirates of the Carribbean Dead Mans Chest. Watch when they first see the black pearl. There is a musical climax that ends with some of the lowest frequency I've experienced. It also made one of the subs hit maximum excursion! Running at 0db is not recommended for this!!!

Pod Race from Ep. 1
The first few minutes of Duel of the Fates (people can't believe how much of a bottom end sound the sabers have)
"Crank it up" scene from Daytona on my DVR

Call of Duty 2 D-day beach level on the 360 if they have a few more minutes of time to spare, as well as Dfergies suggestion of Saving Private Ryan.

I kept Open Range for 3 months on my 921, the opening with the Thunderstorm and the gunfight at the end are awesome for LFE and surround effects...

Pacific Northwest, where it rains a lot...
HD DVR:

1) Star Wars: Episode III. The first 20-minutes shows off things quite well.
2) Open Range. I've had it on my 622 since before HDNet Movies got downrezzed.

DVD:

1) Blade Runner - Director's Cut, Remastered
2) The Fifth Element (Superbit) - DTS
3) Swordfish - DTS
4) Steely Dan: 2 Against Nature - DTS
5) The Eagles: Farewell Tour - DTS
6) Jurassic Park - DTS

I'm not touching High Def DVD until there's a clear winner in the format war.

Off the top of my head here are a few of my favorite demo scenes.

  • The opening scene from the movie Contact
  • The bi-plane fly-over in The Mummy
  • The door pounding scene in The Haunted
  • The arrival of the Polar Express
  • The beach scene of Saving Private Ryan
  • The ice field scene from Titan A.E.
  • The scene from LotR-tFotR where Gandalf defeats the Balrog
  • The "God" creature speaking in Star Trek V
  • The pod race scene from Star Wars Episode One

...just to name a few ;)
