Well, I haven't finished watching all three HD DVD movies yet, but I must say, so far, I am really impressed! I've spent more than two hours doing back-to-back comparison of The Phantom of the Opera HD DVD to a DVR copy of it (recorded recently from HBO-HD on E*). This is not exactly apples to apples as HBO's version is cropped to 16x9, and the movie is not the best choice for comparison, as it is shot with soft filters and in artificial light, but I don't think this matters. The picture on HD DVD is so much better! I didn't even think my Sony GWIII could look so good!

The WOW is back! Nice, clean picture, no compression artifacts whatsoever. Compared to that, the HBO's version looks flat and washed-out. (And I thought it looked pretty good...)

Ok, back to watching HD DVD's... See ya! ;)
