this is such a great forum - I learned so much just browsing the posts

but now i have a question

i got the hr-20 and i have a Sony Bravia 40 inch

when the HD broadcast is in 1080i the picture is as expected gorgeous

BUT when broadcast in 720p (NBC, ESPN, ABC sometimes) i cant seem to get it right

everybody looks too skinny - maybe its just bc i am used to watching stretched TV but i think that for some reason 720p does not fill up the screen like 1080i and the image is suffering for that reason

any help is appreciated...

thanks

ef

What's the native resolution for the TV? 720p or 1080i? My HDTV does 1080i but not 720p so I just set my DVR to output 1080i all the time.

the resolution on the TV is 1366 x 768

i dont know what else to tell you

thanks

ef

i don't think you would need to worry about the resolution that much....what's your bravia model number?? what kind of cables are you using to connect your dvr to bravia?

Hit Menu, Help & Settings, Setup, Display. Try Native On or Off. I prefer off. I've had 5 different HD dvr's and the HR20 is kind of confusing and definately different than the others for setting screen resolution. I believe yours would be 720P.

You can NOW get a Bravia 40, maybe 42 in a 1080P panel as well.

Remember, Anything that does not fill the screen naturally is NOT HD, it is streached.
Nice choice on the TV you should have it for a long , long time.
