After picking up Dish in 1999, mainly because they had distant locals & super stations, I finally cancelled the service. Not unhappy with Dish, even though the pricing keeps going up, but what doesn't? I am keeping the Vip211k and Dish up. Who knows? I may re-subscribe, but at this point I doubt it. I haven't watched Dish for probably 1-2 years, so I had it on pause. I watch You Tube and Prime mostly, and occasionally OTA TV. I guess I can remove the outboard HDD and use it for something else now. The OTA tuner still works and the OTA guide, but there has been a lot of OTA channels without guides anyway. I have two Tablo's and a Recast, when I want to record OTA anyway. Again, I have no complaints with Dish. They have been great to me over the years. I guess, officially I am now a Cord Cutter. :-).

Totally understand, I'm probably going to be cancelling Dish when my $30/mo credits expire in 3 months too, nothing wrong with the service just the sad lack of content on cable and OTA TV. YouTube and Pluto are really all I need.

Congratulations! You lasted one year longer than I did. I started in January of 1997 and cut the cord at the end of January 2022. Now the real battle begins trying to keep the streaming costs down. But you have the ota networks covered using Tablo. I have the Next gen 4 tuner Tablo and it operates wonderfully. I also have the Air TV Anywhere 4 tuner Dvr, I use with Sling Tv and it actually has all my guide data for all my locals and sub channels. Even Tablo doesn't have all of them yet. You can always stream a service when something you want to watch is on and drop it to save money when not. Paramount plus is the one I use the least unless new episodes of Star Trek Strange Worlds is playing. But either way you will save more since you cut the cord. :biggrin

OK, are you going to change your user name to Streamdude?;)

I really need to explore Pluto and Xumo more.
I beat you all and dropped it before Covid

I figure in 10 months from now, my wife, daughter, and I will be doing the same. Our ISP also does TV, FUBO, or YOUTUBE TV will be the top 3 choices for TV. I love Dish, but the prices is dictating this choice.

I don't know his reasons but I got the 4th gen Tablo (2 tuner) but still keep my Recast (also 2 tuner) running in parallel. So if, as unlikely as it is, a bunch of people are visiting and using the various extra bedroom TV's, they can all be independent. I keep the Dish Anywhere information to myself to use in my own bedroom. The H3 is there in the main viewing room for group watching. Overkill? Sure, but I have the equipment so why not connect it up?

Unlike most of you on this thread, I will be staying with Dish. In spite of what Bruce may say, it is the best value for me. I want sports (ESPN and ABC, FOX, CBS including CBS Sportsnet, NBC not just OTA, Turner), Turner Classic Movies (the original not the neutered version on Max), History and Hallmark. I don't know of another service that provides all of these at the price that Dish costs. Being able to record the FAST channels and skip the breaks as well as the outstanding Hopper 3 are all big plusses. I've been with Dish for over 25 years and get the Loyalty rate. It just makes sense for the wife and me.

Since you brought up my name for no reason, Hulu Live at $83 a month, bet Dish is a lot more when you add up those fees.

Plus that includes regular Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN+.

I wanted to try the new Next gen 4 tuner Tablo, since I had the old legacy 4 tuner Tablo and it is a very big improvement and the picture quality is much improved on the Next Gen. No compression like with the legacy Tablo. I got the next gen Tablo on my birthday last year from my wife. I had the legacy Tablo first while I was with DISH and then switched to the Air TV Anywhere device when I went with Sling TV and dropped DISH.

I have to say the original Air TV Anywhere device crapped out recently after 4 years and I found a site that was only charging $80 for a new one. The original price was $199.99. The draw back to the 4 tuner device is you can't use an external hard drive with it like you can Air TV 2 tuner device or the Tablo. So when the hard drive fails on the 4 tuner Air TV device it is useless.

I guess I consider the ota dvrs like my hobby. I had to learn how to install an ota antenna first, so it could be used for recording. My old set up was the TERK clip on antenna that clipped on your satellite dish and works with diplexors. It died about 6 years ago and they don't make them anymore.

I did my research and figured out which antenna was being used in Air TV installs by DISH. I bought the Televes Boss Digi Nova antenna that has both uhf and vhf. It was easy to install on a mount on the back side of my house facing the towers. I also installed one at my parents house and it was working great till they got a new roof and now it sits in their garage not being used. Going to try to install it in their attic this fall when it cools down and see if it works.

Everyone has a different use case and I agree Dish is the best value of all the traditional providers. I've stayed with them because I am able to avoid retrans fees (no other provider lets you pick locals a la carte) and avoid DVR and equipment fees (I have an owned Wally). Couple that with the discount they've been giving the last few years and it has enticed me to stay.

Old ui looked cleaner to me

Hopper Plus?
